Some Words Matter More Than Others
Our first book is for children who are grieving, and for the adults who don't know what to say to them.
Our debut junior fiction book follows Sophie, a story that doesn't try to explain grief away or wrap it up neatly. It sits with the missing, the strange in-between feelings, and the small ordinary moments that grief shows up in. It's fiction, but it comes from something real.
Kindred Ink Studio exists because the right book, at the right moment, can hand a child language they didn't have yet, and can hand the adults around them a way in.
A Note From Me
This story is fictional, but the feelings are real.
It was born from my own experience of grief of losing someone before I knew how to put words around that kind of missing.
I wrote this for the kids who don't have the language yet, and for the ones who do but think they're the only ones feeling it.
Grief doesn't always look like tears.
Sometimes it looks like saving a biscuit.
Or walking past the same house every day.
Or laughing and feeling strange about it.
Sophie's story reminds us that missing someone doesn't mean staying stuck.
You can hold on without holding back.
You can remember and move forward at the same time.
If you're reading this and grieving, know this:
You're not alone.
You're not doing it wrong.
And you are allowed to feel it, all the big, the loud, the quiet, the silly, the angry, and the soft.
This book is for you.
With love and light,
Kindred Ink Studio
